If you get error 403 in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows, here’s what you should do.

If you see “Error 403: Access Denied or Forbidden,” it indicates QuickBooks Desktop is unable to connect to our online services.

Start by adjusting one of your internet settings to resolve the issue.

In Internet Explorer, change the proxy server option.

Important: You may use this approach even if you don’t have Windows 10 or if you don’t use Internet Explorer. QuickBooks Desktop connects to our online services using Internet Explorer behind the scenes.

  • Open the Internet Explorer browser.
  • At the upper right of the browser window, click the Gear symbol. Alternatively, hit the Alt key to bring up the menu bar on your computer, then pick the Tools menu.
  • From the menu, choose Internet Options.
  • Select the Connections tab from the drop-down menu.
  • The LAN settings button should be selected.
  • Remove the check from the box. For your LAN, use a proxy server.
  • To close the LAN settings window, select OK.
  • To close the Internet Options window, click OK.

If you don’t see Internet Explorer on Windows 10, it’s because it’s not installed.

Edge has taken the position of Internet Explorer as Microsoft’s primary web browser. Internet Explorer, on the other hand, is still available on Windows 10. If you don’t see Internet Explorer on your machine, you can use Edge to open it:

Open the Microsoft Edge browser.

Select the three dots (…) in the browser window’s upper right corner.

Choose Internet Explorer as your default browser.

To modify the proxy server setting, repeat the procedures above.
